Reprieve for Fintona library while Moy library faces axe

WHILE there was joy among library users in Fintona with the announcement that there facility will remain open, across Tyrone in the Moy, local people expressed disappointment on being told that their library will be closed.

Following its meeting on Thursday the Libraries NI Board announced the results of “extensive public consultation process” regarding libraries outside the greater Belfast area. They had initially decided that Fintona and Moy libraries did not meet the criteria in terms of “fitness for purpose, potential to deliver the vision of a modern library service, location and sustainability”.

However Fintona library received a reprieve while the decision to close the Moy library still stands.
