Hospitals refuse to go away

ACE marksman Mick McCullagh bagged an early brace of goals as Omagh Hospitals kept alive their hopes of gate-crashing the Division Two promotion party.

McCullagh wasted little time in making his presence felt by tapping into an empty net, after Paddy Magee raced through onto a Mickey Coyle pass on the left before drawing the goalkeeper Brian Beacom and teeing up the spearhead for the simplest of finishes.

Moments later the sharpshooter bagged a second, this time it was surging midfielder Ryan Timlin, after exchanging passes Barry McMahon, who provided the assist for McCullagh to first time the ball past the Kesh custodian.

McCullagh was making a real nuisance of himself and late in the half the big striker looked towards the referee when he was bundled over in the penalty area.

The referee though waved play on and, after Hospitals lost centre-back Darren Rutledge early in the second half  through injury, Kesh, for whom Mark Jones twice went close in the first period, made a real fists of things.

Nigel Beacom’s 18-yard shot halved the deficit with 10 minutes to go but the visitors failed to make any further impression as Hospitals replacement Dan Boyle spurned two late opportunities to put significant daylight between the sides.
