Omagh and Trillick seeking national glory

THIS WEEKEND, both Omagh St Enda’s and Trillick St Macartan’s head to Mayo in search of honours in the All-Ireland Scór na nOg finals.

The Omagh St Enda’s ballad group and the Trillick St Macartan’s quiz team will fly the flag for Tyrone and for Ulster as they travel west for the national decider in Castlebar, with both sides in with a great shot of claiming titles.

According to Trillick mentor Dermot McCaughey, the quiz trio of Sean McCann, Darragh McQuaid and Diarmaid McCaughey have been doing all they can to make sure they’re up to the challenge.

“I suppose it’s just about having an interest in what is going on, with Irish history and the GAA of course to the fore. Because of the individual questions, you need to have a good range of knowledge areas as opposed to concentrating all your efforts on one particular area.

“There is an element of luck in the whole thing. It’s all down to whether or not the questions fall in your favour on the night. You just have to hope that you know whatever it is that comes up. That’s where the element of luck comes into it, and hopefully it’ll be on our side this weekend.”
