A FORMER member of the Order of Malta plans to set up an annual award dedicated to the memory of a fellow member who died last week.

Steven Doyle – who was a member of the Order for 17 years – hopes to launch the ‘Brendan Morrison Memorial Award for Outstanding Care in the Community’ at a fundraising function in aid of the Order of Malta in May.

Brendan Morrison, from Shandon Park, joined the Order of Malta in 1969 and held a number of positions over the years culminating in one of the longest serving officers-in-charge.

He passed away last week following an illness. Throughout a lifetime with the organisation, he served in Lourdes for 39 years caring for the sick and those in hospital there.

He had also cared for the sick travelling to Knock throughout the past 40 years.
