Woman remains in hospital after A5 collision

A 54 year-old woman remains in hospital after a car and a lorry collided on the A5 Beltany Road at Mountjoy on Wednesday.

Two lorries and a car were involved in the incident which happened close to the Ulster American Folk Park at around 3.30pm.


A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service revealed that an ambulance crew was within the vicinity of the collision shortly after it happened at 3.37pm, with paramedics on the scene immediately. The collision resulted in a woman being trapped in a car at the scene.

Firefighters who attended the incident in two appliances from Omagh, released the 54 year-old woman using hydraulic cutting gear, she was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital suffering from pelvic injuries.

The A5 between Newtownstewart and Mountjoy was closed following the incident, with diversions in place for traffic in both directions throughout Wednesday evening.

Southern bound traffic was diverted onto the Plumbridge Road at Newtownstewart while northern bound traffic was diverted onto the Gortnagarn Road at the Ulster American Folk Park.

Buses were also diverted while the road remained closed.
