A YOUNG motocross sensation from Omagh is set to represent Ireland at a Home Nations invitational event in Northampton.
Lewis Spratt, aged 7, has been named in the Irish team that will pit their wits against their young counterparts from England, Scotland and Wales at Milton MX Park.
The Hospital Road lad’s international call-up will come as no great surprise given that he has already notched up a staggering 57 race victories this season. The young flyer finished runner-up in the All Ireland Championship in Desertmartin at the weekend and currently leads the prestigious Irish Championship with one round remaining.
If the Omagh speedster can pick up 15 points in the final round, also at Desertmartin, then he will be crowned Irish champion.
Lewis is also leading the Bushmills and Errigal championships, the fourth rounds of which take place over the next two Sundays. He, too, is lying second in the race for Ulster glory.
Lewis’s dad is veteran motocross rider Mark Spratt who said his son was “over the moon” at his selection.
“He’s very optimistic and is going there with thoughts of winning the races,” he said. “There are five races in total, three on the Saturday and two on the Sunday.”
The event takes place on Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17.
