‘Lucky’ escape for cyclist hit by taxi which drove away

A CLONOE cyclist said he was lucky to escape with minor injuries when he was knocked off his bicycle by a taxi on Saturday morning in Dungannon.

The incident happened around 6.30am at the traffic lights on the Moy Road at the junction to Gortmerron Link, close to Dungannon Park.

Danny McStravock, who is in his mid 50s, received bruising to his arm and said he will have to take a few days off work as a result of the collision.

Mr McStravock, who now resides in Moneymore, explained, “The taxi driver turned left as I was cycling straight on and knocked me off my bike.

“My wrist is strapped up now and I have cuts and bruises. The incident has been reported and police have received a good description of the taxi driver.”

Mr McStravock claimed the driver came back and shouted aggressively before driving through red lights.

Police confirmed that they are investigating.
