Countdown to opening of new Omagh Hospital

STAFF are counting down the days until the opening of the new Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex scheduled for June 20.

Tyrone County Hospital staff gathered outside the main entrance this week holding aloft large balloons to mark the 30 day countdown.

Professor Ronan O’Hare, assistant director of acute services spoke of the growing excitement. He said, “The Tyrone County Hospital has been part of the lives of the people of Omagh and Tyrone for several decades. The building has served its community through times of happiness and joy but also sadness. But a building is nothing without a soul – its staff. There is a palpable excitement amongst the staff as we prepare for the big move.

“It is with tremendous pride and years of hard work, that we are opening the new Omagh Hospital and Primary Complex on June 20. This day will be a milestone in the delivery of healthcare to the community of Tyrone and beyond. The staff will continue to deliver healthcare at its best, but in a new state of the art facility, allowing us to develop further clinical services.
“On behalf of the Western Trust, I would like to thank all of those involved in bringing this project to fruition.”

Prof O’Hare emphasised how the new hospital will offer the most modern clinical practices using the latest technologies which will enhance the way care is delivered to patients.

He said, “We have developed robust plans in conjunction with Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, Roads Service and PSNI to ensure the safe and smooth transfer of patients from the Tyrone County to the new hospital on June 20.
“We would like to take the opportunity to thank the public for their continuing support during this transition period.”

Hospital guide will be delivered to locals

THE Western Health and Social Care Trust will deliver hospital information guides to over 27,500 residential homes and businesses in the Omagh and surrounding areas.

The new Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex is located on the Donaghanie Road (Omagh to Beragh), approximately 1.5 miles from the existing Tyrone County Hospital.

All services currently provided at the Tyrone County Hospital including Urgent Care and Treatment services, will open from June 20.

From June 26, all services currently provided at the Omagh Health Centre will be operational at the new Omagh Hospital.
The Western Trust is asking the public to look out for the leaflet coming through their doors, stating it will provide an insight into the services that will be provided at the new Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex.
