THE Red Balloon Guitar Workshop returns this summer for a week long celebration of music.
Launched in memory of late Killyclogher teenager Enda Dolan, the workshop runs in the South West College’s Omagh campus from Monday July 31 to Friday August 4.
The initiative, named after a song written and performed by Enda Dolan, has become an annual celebration of the 18-year-old’s passion for the guitar.
Run by the Enda Dolan Foundation, the workshop offers young people an opportunity to enhance their playing skills and to come together and meet new people with similar interests.
Launching this year’s venture, Enda’s father Peter Dolan said, “We are delighted that numerous excellent local guitarists have offered their tuition. The project co-ordinator is Larry Lowe who actually taught Enda the guitar in the CBS. Other talented musicians will pop in during the week and we would welcome any guitarists who can offer their services for a few hours during the week to get in contact with Niamh on 07754538291.
“Along with guitar tuition we are hoping to incorporate vocal work and recording,” he added.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank South West College for providing the venue, Omagh Music Academy and Reynolds Music for their support.”
The Red Balloon Guitar Workshop costs £55 for one participant or £100 for two children for the week.
It runs in the South West College Omagh from Monday July 31 to Friday August 4 from 10am to 3pm, culminating in a gig on Friday evening. The event is aimed at aged 8 upwards and participants must have a guitar.
Next enrolment date is Friday, July 28 between 11am and 12.30pm.
