A MEMBER of Omagh Ladies Hockey Club has helped Ireland triumph in the over-45s Home Nations tournament in Dublin.

Attacker Anne Young, played in all three games against Scotland, Wales and England and in the process scored three goals, most significantly the opener in the 2-1 victory over favourites England on the final day.

It was a memorable weekend for the women in green and Young, who netted twice in the opening game against the Scots, was delighted to play her part.

“We defeated Scotland 3-0 before beating Wales 2-1. That was something of a revenge mission. They beat us 5-0 last year and that hurt us.

“So we had something to prove, especially to ourselves.

“In the final game I scored early on and we then went 2-0 up when Kathryn Henderson scored following up a penalty flick.

“England did put us under a lot of pressure in the fourth quarter and scored a well worked goal but thankfully we held out.”

Winning the Home Nations was a real fillip for the Irish who now turn their attention to the European Championships which are being held in Holland between August 10-20.
