PSNI criticised over suspects mugshots on social media

A NEW initiative by the police to publish mugshots of suspected criminals in Tyrone on Facebook has been slammed as ‘public shaming’ and trial by social media.
 
‘Operation Exposure’ is set to be rolled out in Tyrone and will see images of people who police officers are seeking to identify published on local Facebook pages.

Chief Inspector, Roy Robinson, said the images would only be used within a set of stringent guidelines authorised by the District Commander.
 
The PSNI say that each photo will only be posted for 24 hours and that comments on Facebook naming the person are not permitted.
