POLICE posted a jubilant message on Facebook following the arrest of three men in connection with shoplifting incidents in the Omagh area.
On going to press two 38-year-old men and a 33-year-old man were still in custody.
They were arrested on Tuesday after staff at a retail store in the Showgrounds in Omagh reported that a number of males had made off with a large number of stolen items.
Officers in Omagh alert colleagues in Dungannon who stopped a vehicle and arrested the occupants.
A large quantity of clothing with tags attached were recovered with the car.
On their Facebook page, PSNI Dungannon and South Tyrone suggested the individuals may have been involved in thefts across the North.
The jubilant PSNI Facebook post on Wednesday read, “I know we haven’t quite made it to Halloween yet but I’m starting to think about my Christmas shopping!
“Yesterday evening in a fantastic effort by LPT (local policing team) officers from Omagh and Dungannon they managed to stop they males in a vehicle who decided not to pay for their Christmas shopping. They even had it neatly prepared in gift bags. It is believed these individuals have been involved in thefts across the Province and have been spending the evening helping us with our enquiries.
“On a more serious note if you’re offered branded goods on the cheap from the boot of a car they have haven’t ‘fallen off the back of a lorry’ they have been stolen and you can face prosecution if you are in possession of these goods.
“On that note there are only 74 days to Christmas! #christmasshopping #swagbag #keepingpeoplesafe #74daystochristmas.”
