Man arrested in connection with armed robbery

 
Police in Cookstown have arrested a male on suspicion of attempted robbery, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit and indictable offence, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and burglary following incidents in the town yesterday, Saturday, April 7. 

It was reported that at around 1pm a male, armed with a hammer, entered an off licence on Chapel Street and demanded money from a member of staff. The male made off empty handed when the female staff member raised the alarm. 

Shortly after 10.15pm on Saturday night, police received a report of a burglary at commercial premises on Orritor Street. Officers responded and detained a male on the premises.
