Omagh Golf Club junior Eamonn McAleer’s playing capabilities outshone the wet and windy conditions at Dublin last Saturday, to become the overall champion of the Darren Clarke Skills Challenge 2013.

This summer, over 650 juniors participated in the challenge over the summer months at their respective golf clubs and the winners from each category represented their club at the National finals held at Elm Green Golf Centre, Dublin last Saturday.

The programme also combined golf skills with a sun-smart campaign in order to educate young golfers how to be sun-safe on the golf course. Every year 8,000 Irish people are diagnosed with skin cancer – it gave the junior convenors and coaches a chance to do their bit this summer by incorporating into the coaching programme activities on educating junior golfers on the importance of being Sun Smart.

Eamonn was thrilled with his triumph. “I am so delighted, happy and over the moon at winning this cup. I’m also delighted for my family who give me so much support and also to the coaching staff at Omagh Golf Club.”
