LOCAL team colours are set to feature among the pelotons in what promises to be a sensational weekend of racing at the All Ireland National Cycling Championships in Omagh.
Host club Omagh Wheelers are well represented with Marc Potts, Stephen McKenna, Gary Donaldson, David McFall, Ivan Reid, Glenn Warnock and Angus Fyffe all competing in Sunday’s senior men’s road race while Darnell Moore, Sean McIntyre and Conor Murphy run for Caldwell Cycles.
In this evening’s time trial Ivan Reid flies the flag for Omagh Wheelers, Sean McIntyre goes for Caldwell Cycles while Patrick Withers represents Fintona’s West Tyrone Velo.
On Saturday Julie Mulligan, Strule Wheelers is the only local competitor in the Elite women’s race while dad John takes up the challenge in the Masters 60 race alongside Eunan Devenney, Strabane/Lifford CC.
The M40 and M50 road races also run on Saturday with Caldwell Cycles out in force and well represented by Gary McAleer, Heath McCombe, Tom McGread, Paul Mulligan and Paul Warriner in the over-40s event. Vincent McCarron, Strabane/Lifford CC and West Tyrone Velo’s Barry McKenna will be hoping to give local supporters plenty to cheer.
In the Masters 50 race local hopes rest with the Wheelers double act of Michael Gallen and Seamus Keenan and Paul McMenamin, competing under the Caldwell’s umbrella.
