CARRICKMORE Boxing Club has received a major boost after being chosen to host the 2016 Mid Ulster Boys 1 2 and 3 Championships.

This prestigious competition which will feature a host of top quality boxers takes place next weekend (Sat 27th Feb/Sun 28th Feb) and also Sunday 6th March. The Patrician Hall will be the venue for all the action.

This is the first time that this tournament has ever been held in Carrickmore and Club PRO Brendan Haughey said they were honoured to be hosts this year.

“ The Club is looking forward to staging a great tournament and welcoming all the vast array of clubs in the Mid-Ulster area to Carrickmore. The weigh inns each morning will be from 9-10am and boxing starts at 11am.

The best of young talent in Mid-Ulster will all be there trying to win through to represent their clubs in Ulster and at All-Ireland level so high quality boxing is guaranteed.”

Meanwhile Carrickmore’s own impressive stable of boxers continue to make an impression securing medals in various Championships.

At the recent Tyrone and Fermanagh Championships Shea Conway, Daithi McCallan, Barney Corcoran, Danial McDonagh, Ryan Haughey, John McCartan, Olivia Corcoran, Aine Tanney and Katie McMahon were all among the winners, while a trio Olivia Corcoran, Barney Corcoran and Shea Conway proceeded to taste success at the  Ulster 9 County Championships as well.
