Janet Devlin to embark on ‘My Opium Tour’

Janet Devlin
JANET Devlin says she has upwards of 40 songs to choose from for her new album.

Speaking to the Ulster Herald this week as details were released about a new 14-date British and Irish tour later in the year, the hard-working Gortin singer also revealed that her cover of the Cure’s ‘Friday I’m in Love’ has past its three millionth stream on Spotify.

“Yeah, that was good,” Janet laughed. “I’m on Spotify’s Acoustic Covers playlist and I think they just didn’t take it off.”

She continued, “I probably have over 40 songs written for the new album at the minute. When will it be released?

“I’ll get there. I suppose it’ll be ready, when it’s ready.

“I’d rather have the stuff written and then be on the road. I know this year there’s going to be a hell of a lot of new songs to perform.”

With the working title of ‘Holy Water’, the forthcoming release follows Janet’s critically acclaimed 2014 album, ‘Running with Scissors’ and the subsequent EPs ‘Duvet Daze’ and ‘December Daze.’

The X Factor alumni also divulged this week that she is currently working with ex-Mud guitarist Rob Davis, the man responsible for Kyle Minogue’s world-wide hit ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head.’

She continued, “I’m warming up for the tour later in the year with a small tour in Norway; I’m play four dates out there.

“And then I’m off to the States for a couple of dates out there – so I’ll be pretty busy.

“At the minute I’m making more music which will hopefully be released before the new album. This will either be two EPs or another album, we’ll have to see.

“Potentially, I’ll be releasing a single from Holy Water later this year. I’m hoping too to be able to release Holy Water on  major label.”

• As part of Janet’s My Opium Tour later this year, she will play the Belfast Empire on December 14 and the Strule Arts Centre on December 16. See www.janetdevlin.com for more information
