Coalisland man guilty of child abduction bid

A Coalisland man has been convicted of attempting to abduct a friend’s five-year old child and threatening to burn down her school, after being challenged by staff.
Following a contested hearing at East Tyrone Magistrates court the judge described the incident as disgraceful episode in which the defendant, who has 172 previous convictions, “asserted his intentions and threatened staff with violence in the process”.
Despite having no connection to the child, other than she was the daughter of a friend, the man “took it upon himself” to present at the school on November 18, 2016.
He was extremely drunk and demanded the girl was handed into his care, before becoming angry Social Services had been notified.
