A FORMER soldier is to be prosecuted in connection with the fatal shooting of Aidan McAnespie while on his way to a GAA match over 30 years ago.
The Public Prosecution Service (PPS) has confirmed that the decision has been taken to prosecute the now 48 year-old for the offence of gross negligence manslaughter.
Mr McAnespie was shot moments after he passed through the army check point at Aughnacloy in February 1988.
The suspect was first charged with the manslaughter of Mr McAnespie in 1988. However, these proceedings were withdrawn at Belfast Magistrates Court in September 1988.
