Local student in the frame for a win

Elmokhtar Berrabah from Killyclogher, is a finalist in this year’s Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.

Killyclogher student and airline pilot hopeful Elmokhtar Berrabah has scooped a tasty bottle of champagne and a £125 glasses voucher in this year’s ‘Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer’ of the Year.

Elmo, a computer science student at Liverpool John Moores University, was chosen from thousands of glasses wearers.

Elmo said, “I’m thrilled to be a local winner in this exciting Specsavers competition. I spotted it on Instagram and thought it would be great fun to enter. If I were lucky enough to reach the final in London and won the top prize, I’d want to use the money to fund training to become an airline pilot – it’s been an ambition of mine for several years. It’s also brilliant that the competition helps raise funds to support anti-bullying charity Kidscape.”

Store optometry director Donna Harbison congratulated Elmo on being a 16-24 category winner saying, “Myself, Emma and all our staff were delighted to welcome Elmo into the store and we’re so pleased to have a regional winner from Omagh. He is a super ambassador for specs wearers and has a great eye for stylish glasses. We all wish him the very best of luck for the next round of judging.”

The awards were launched by Steps star Claire Richards earlier this year. If Elmo triumphs in his age category, he will meet Claire and rub shoulders with many other celebrities at the glitzy awards ceremony in London in October.
