Loughmacrory women ‘Brave the Shave’ for cancer

LOUGHMACRORY women Sharon and Bernie O’Brien will be going under the razor next week as part of Macmillan’s ‘Brave the Shave’ campaign to raise vital funds for cancer care.
This is a charity very close to their hearts, both having lost family members to cancer.
“We are doing this out of choice,” explained Sharon. “But there are so many people out there that have no choice and we want to raise money to help them.
“There is not a family in the country that hasn’t been affected by cancer, and it was important for us to show our support to all those fighting hard to beat the disease.”
Bernie will be braving the shave in memory of her sister Maire Kelly, and will be joined alongside by Sharon who will be doing it in memory of her two brothers Peter and Sean Harte, who lost their battle with cancer just two years apart.
“We want it to be a celebration, a chance for everyone in the community to come together for a night of craic and show their support for one another, which is so important during times of illness,” continued Sharon.
“My brother Peter was the life and soul of the party, and he grew his hair and beard for an event just like this, so this is really something for him.”
Sharon has been growing her hair in preparation for next weeks big hair cut, and plans to donate her shaved locks to the Little Princess Trust which provides wigs to children who have lost their hair due to illness.
Omagh hairdresser Nicola Taggart and Loughmacrory barber Cahal Logue will be coming along to help the Loughmacrory ladies with their cuts.
Sharon and Bernie will ‘Brave the Shave’ next Friday, November 30 in Loughmacrory GAA Clubrooms at 9pm, with music provided by Mark Taggart.
All money raised on the night will go to Termonmaguirc Cancer Patients Comfort Fund and Macmillan Cancer Support.
