Keeper fires Omagh into the next round

IN what turned out to be one of the games of the season, Omagh Futsal Club were delighted to come out on top in the first round of the NI Futsal Cup against FC United LT at Omagh Leisure Complex on Sunday.

Against an experienced visiting outfit, the game as delicately poised as it entered the final minutes when goalkeeper, Lloyd Kinloch struck what proved the winner with only seconds remaining.

Omagh were behind throughout the game and on three occasions were trailing by three goals, but thanks to strikes from Frank Brannigan (3), Andre Paiva (2,) Alan Browne and Luis Supresa Rodrigues it was level before Kinloch provided the finishing touch for a home victory.

Omagh manager Martin Cassidy said: “Going into the game we didn’t know what to expect from our opposition.

“We knew they were experienced and they turned out to be the best futsal team we have played against to date.

“It looked like an impossible task. I was watching injured from the sidelines, it was a thrilling game to watch.

“I was thinking to myself ‘I am proud of these boys no matter what the outcome’ because we never gave up against a side who were clinical and punished us at every opportunity.”

Omagh go forward to the quarter-finals on Sunday, March 24 [draw TBC), while their next game is at Derry Eagles in Foyle Arena at 2.15pm this coming Sunday in the NI National Futsal league.
