Omagh athlete gets rousing send-off to Special Olympics

LEE Mitchell from Omagh set off this morning (Thursday) on the journey of a lifetime to represent Ireland at the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi.

He will be part of Team Ireland that has 91 athletes competing in the games with just four selected from the North. The 21-year-old, a member of Spires Special Olympic Club in Omagh, will take part in the equestrian event.

Lee was thrilled when family and friends gathered to give him a rousing send-off while Ashdale Court where he lives has been festooned with bunting and balloons.

The Special Olympics will take place between March 14-21 and is set to be the biggest sporting and humanitarian event in the world this year.
