Man has ear bitten off in Bridge Street area of Omagh

A 48 year old male had part of his ear bitten off during an incident in the Bridge Street area of Omagh on Saturday night, April 20.

A 33 year old male has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in police custody at this time.

The police has clarified that “some form of altercation took place in the Bridge Street area” of the town at around 8pm.

In a previous report the PSNI had incorrectly stated the incident occurred in the smoking area of the premises on Old Market Place.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following this serious assault.

Detective Inspector Trevor Stevenson said, “It was reported at around 8pm that some form of altercation took place in the Bridge Street area of the town which ended with a 48 year old male having part of his ear bitten off.  A 33 year old male has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in police custody at this time.

Detective Inspector Trevor Stevenson is appealing for anyone who witnessed the altercation or who has any information which could assist officers with their enquiries to contact detectives in Omagh on 101 quoting reference 1326 20/04/19.  Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
