‘Hidden potential’ of Ecclesville Pond to be examined

A PROPOSAL for an examination into the possible regeneration of Ecclesville Pond in Fintona was accepted by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council this week.

A feasibility study will now be carried out to discover the “hidden potential” of the pond which is located within the grounds of the Ecclesville Centre in Fintona.

Sinn Féín councillor Stephen McCann put forward the proposal at Tuesday evening’s regeneration and community meeting in Enniskillen.

Cllr McCann said he sees “huge potential” in transforming the area for recreational use.

“This pond is within council control and currently is not being utilised at all. When you look at how other areas have built initiatives around ponds/loughs such as Loughmacrory there could be huge potential for the Ecclesville pond to be transformed and utilised for recreational and sporting use,” he explained.

“I look forward to this feasibility study bringing forward a creative proposal to exploit the full potential of this resource. I know that any efforts to rejuvenate this area will be greatly welcomed by the local community.”
