Wedding guests evacuated after coach fire

ALMOST 40 people had to be evacuated from a bus which was travelling to a wedding in Cranagh this afternoon (Saturday).

The incident happened shortly after 12 noon and resulted in the 52 seater vehicle being completely burned out and the 38 passengers being evacuated from the vehicle.

Three appliances and 15 personnel from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene on the Ligford Road.


A spokesperson for the NIFRS said that the incident happened when the bus driver noticed smoke coming from the back of the coach.

When  he went to the back of the coach he noticed the smoke and the fire subsequently took hold, requiring the 38 occupants to be removed from the coach.

The road was closed for a time, and the coach has had to be removed.
