THE wonderful life of Paul McGrath will be remembered and celebrated during a glittering gala ball for charity this November.
The special event has been thoughtfully organised by Ellen McNamee (née McGrath) from Killyclogher, to mark her brother’s upcoming ten year anniversary, and all proceeds on the night will be gifted to the Air Ambulance NI.
A popular member of the local community, Paul was tragically killed in a traffic collision on the main Cookstown road on January 7, 2010. He was just 18-years-old.
For Ellen, the night truly will be a poignant affair: The date of the ball co-incides with the same weekend that Paul celebrated his 18th birthday back in 2009, and falls just three days shy of the 40th anniversary of another of her siblings, her late brother Daniel, who sadly died on November 20, 1979.
However, Ellen does not want tears of sorrow to be shed on the night; but instead, she hopes that there will be tears of joy, laughter and craic shared by all.
“I really want it to be a night of celebration to remember the happy person that Paul was,” Ellen said.
“The event falls on a very significant week for my family, and we decided together to raise money for the Air Ambulance NI.
“The charity weren’t on the go when Paul died, but he would have needed them,” the 40-year-old continued. “They do fantastic work and have saved so many lives, however they rely solely on funding from local events to keep going.”
Ellen concluded by expressing her heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported the event so far. She has also thanked the local businesses who have generously donated fantastic prizes for her raffle, including an overnight stay at both the Galgorm Resort & Spa and the Europa Hotel, as well as holiday vouchers.
