Fintona CCÉ present ‘Mad For Trad’ weekend

Mad for Trad Festival, featuring some of the best traditional artists in Ireland, from October 11-13. The Gala Concert, which is definitely not to be missed, commences on Friday, October 11 in St Patrick’s Hall, Fintona at 8.30pm.

Doors open at 8pm. There will be performances from Fintona CCÉ All Ireland winning musicians, while the audience will then be treated to a few sets from the very talented Tiernan Family from Achill in Mayo.

The Tiernan’s have won many All Ireland medals over the years in both music and song. The amazing and renowned Mulcahy Family from West Limerick will also be performing.

They are truly a class act and are definitely not to be missed! This is a fabulous opportunity to hear musicians of such a high calibre perform right on our doorstep and there’s no doubt that this extremely talented line-up will definitely get your toes tapping!

There will be post-concert tunes in McAtee’s Bar featuring the Tiernan Family and Shane Scanlon from Cork. Music and laughter will be heard from early Saturday morning with workshops held in St Lawrence’s Primary School.

Registration commences at 9am with workshops beginning at 10am until 3pm.

Tutor led workshops including Jason McGuinness and Stephen Hayden (fiddle); Aishling McPhillips and Céin Sweeney (tin whistle and flute); Colm McGonigle (concertina); Shane Scanlon, the current All Ireland Banjo and Mandolin Senior Champion (banjo); Current All Ireland Button Accordion Champion Séamus Tiernan (button accordion); Dearbhla Scallon (traditional singing); Michelle Mulcahy (harp) and Louise Mulcahy (multi-instrument Grade 6 or above).

Here, musicians get the chance to play with the masters of traditional music in a natural, relaxing environment which will help them to enhance their own playing. Lunch break will be from 1-2pm. The workshops finish at 3pm and are then followed by a student /tutor recital.

The early evening will see the crowds move to the various pubs: The Goalpost, McGlinn’s, The Poet’s and The Snooker Club to follow the session trail of local musicians and then open sessions alongside workshop tutors.

Sessions will start at 8pm and continue into the wee hours. Sunday brings the fireside sessions from 5pm in The Poets Bar with the talented Walls Family from Moneyglass in Antrim and from 7pm in The Goalpost Bar with the renowned Peter McKenna, Séan Bogan and Shane Maguire.

This weekend ensures to be a great, fun-filled family event with music, song, dance and laughter!
