Greencastle group up for the challenge

AS a means of helping to promote the famed Greencastle Boxing Day run a group of local runners will participate in today’s Dublin Marathon.

The group includes Paul Hughes, Eamon Donnelly, Brian Bradley, Paul McLaughlin, Vincent Hollywood, Barry Moss, Mary Keenan, Admanda Donnelly and the McCullagh connection Conor, Oliver, Pearse and Olivia Mullin, a daughter of Oliver’s.

For Paul McLaughlin and Oliver McCullagh the trip to Dublin will carry added significance given that they were also members of a large contingent from the village which took part in the Dublin 26 miler way back in 1983.

Oliver, chief organiser of the annual Greencastle 5, said everyone was relishing the challenges today will bring.

“It’s going to be a bit of fun,” he said.

“Everyone is really looking forward to it.”

Oliver also confirmed that preparations were also well under way for the popular Greencastle Road Race.

“This will be the 34th year of it,” he added.

“As everyone knows it is Tyrone’s longest established race of its kind and as usual we will be expecting another large turnout.

“Entries will be opening shortly as the countdown begins towards the event on December 26.”
