Tyrone SuperCupNI body to discuss possibilities

THE Tyrone SuperCupNI Association will meet this evening (Tuesday) to discuss the slim possibility of this year’s famed international youth tournament going ahead.

Last year’s tournament was cancelled owing to the coronavirus pandemic and it goes without saying that the 2021 competition is likely to suffer a similar fate.

The SuperCupNI organising committee held a Zoom meeting with the six county bodies last week.

At that meeting the organising committee said that they had received a favourable response from teams about participation in this year’s tournament although doubts were expressed whether that would be possible or not given the likelihood that some restrictions would remain in place until the summer.

It is understood a number of options were put to the county representatives in the event that the tournament received the green light.

Given the timescale a decision one way or other will have to be made sooner rather than later.
